Stoneware is the form of ceramics that are balanced by the durability, size, and weight, and porosity side. But in comparison; porcelain dishes are more refined and strong because of the temperature difference that lies in all the types and the kinds of additive differences.
Stoneware is less porous because they are glazed before firing into the kiln, so they are less water absorbent. Stoneware is fired at 2185 F in the kiln which is less than the porcelain firing temperature.

There is a difference between porcelain and bone china. As I explained before that Porcelain is composed of only kaolin clay, but bone china is composed of the combination porcelain clay and the bone ashes. It is the most refined form of ceramics. Bone china is fired at 2200-degree Fahrenheit, but it is more strong, durable, and break-resistant than porcelain.
Some Differences Between Bone China And Porcelain
- The first difference is the kiln temperature used to produce both and the other one is the firing duration; bone china is fired two times in the kiln while porcelain is fired only one time in the kiln.
- The other difference is that porcelain is made up of the small number of additives like silica, quartz, glass, and granite included with clay and water while the bone china is composed of silica sand, fine feldspar minerals and refined clay with water.
- The main difference that lies in both of these types are bone china appears as milky white while the porcelain appears as the white.
