Dishwasher unable to fill with water is one of the most common issue that can happen due to many reasons. If your dishwasher is not filling with water, then at first, you need to narrow down the problem you are having with your dishwasher. Check if there is no water entering the dishwasher at all or if there is blockage that is preventing it to distribute properly in the dishwasher.
Dishwasher Is Not Filling With Water (Solutions)
Often your dishwasher can stop filling with water if your dishwasher is not installed properly. If your dishwasher is not filling with water, it may be due to some blockage or due to interruption in the cycle. Sometimes air bubbles in the tubes or even an electronic fault can prevent water from flowing. We have collected all the solutions of the problems we could find:
1. Problem in installation
When you install your dishwasher and it does not work, it could be a simple issue in installation. Make sure that the power cord is connected properly, and circuit breaker did not trip. Also, make sure if the tap is in open position.
2. Air Bubbles
Sometimes there are air bubbles inside, that prevent the water from flowing through the hose with the correct intensity of pressure. If that is the issue, disconnect the water supply line from the dishwasher and flush water through it before reinstalling the hose. It will work perfectly.
3. Cycle Interruption
In many dishwashers if the dishwasher is interrupted in between an ongoing cycle it will stop filling more water. In that case, reset the dishwasher by either pressing and holding the start button for a few seconds or with the button of cancel/reset, if it has that option. After that give it a new command. Your dishwasher will work fine.
4. Control Switch
The dishwasher stops filling water when the door is open during a cycle. This mechanism is controlled by the switch. If the switch is faulty then the dishwasher will not fill any more water. If that is the case, you can replace the switch either by yourself or by calling the technician and for that you need to remove the inner door panel to gain access.
5. Water Supply
Dishwasher can also stop filling water for the next cycle if the water supply feed line is turned off for any reason. Check if there is any twist in the water supply line. If you find any, turn of the water valve and remove the hose and the twist. Reattach the hose and turn on the valve. The dishwasher will start its work efficiently.
6. Float Switch
The water level in a dishwasher is controlled by the float switch. It basically floats on the surface of water and triggers the switch to turn on and off according to its level. If the float is on the maximum level it will trigger float switch to turn off that will stop the water supply into the dishwasher and vice versa.
If the float gets struck on the highest level by any kind of blockage then it will not fall back down as water is drained out of the dishwasher. This will not trigger the switch to open the water supply to fill water into the dishwasher. Make sure the float is not struck or jam due to some blockage and its wiring is perfect.
7. Hose Filter
Most of the dishwashers have a hose filter that filters the residue from entering the dishwasher from the water supply line. If this is causing blockage in filling water, then all you need to do is to remove the hose filter and clean any particles that are blocking the passage of water. Put it in its place again and your dishwasher will run fine.
8. Spray Arms
It can also be due to the blockage in spray arms. Remove and clean the spray arms thoroughly. Run the dishwasher without the spray arms to see if the dishwasher is loading water. Try to clean any other blockage. It will function perfectly.
9. Water Pressure
Water pressure also matters a lot in this situation. If you don’t have enough water pressure for your dishwasher it will not fill water. For this grab a 1-gallon container and turn the faucet on to fill the dishwasher. Container will fill within 30 seconds if there is enough water pressure. But in the other case it with take longer than that. You can solve the problem by fixing the water pressure of your water supply line according to your dishwasher.
10. Pooling Water
Sometimes after a cycle, the water does not drain out from the dishwasher due to some blockage in the mesh filter of large object trap. It will turn off the supply of water for the new cycle. In that case try to clean the mesh filter.
You will find it under the large object trap which is at the center bottom of the dishwasher. Remove the bottom tray to access the large object trap. In order to remove the large object trap, turn it anti-clockwise and lift it out.
Clean the mesh filter and remove any large pieces of bones, food debris or broken cutlery. Reinstall all the things after cleaning. Close the door and see if it drains. If it does then your dishwasher will fill the water for the next cycle without any disturbance in its function.
11. Anti-Flood Protection
Another thing that can keep your dishwasher from filling is that it might be automatically blocking the supply of water. Yes, it is possible. The thing is that whenever there is any leakage in the dishwasher, the anti-flood mechanism in the dishwasher automatically activates itself as a protection mechanism and the supply of more water from the external source is automatically turned off.
This might actually be a good thing as it may indicate that you have some leakage in your dishwasher and you may be able to figure it out and fix the problem instead of it being increased without you knowing it.
So, from the above discussion we can conclude that there are a lot of different problems that can keep your dishwasher from filling. The best way to deal with this is that you keep your dishwasher clean and check for any blockage time after time. You should also try not to interrupt the dishwasher cycle. Early rinse your dishes so that the major junk can be eliminated prior to loading the dishes.
This will keep the dishwasher from working for a longer period without having any blockage in its system. Still, if your dishwasher is not filling with water, make sure that you have installed your dishwasher properly with the help of a good dishwasher technician.
